Emmanuel Ekong, the son of former Super Eagles midfielder Prince Ikpe Ekong, has responded to speculation linking him with a potential move to Swedish club Malmö FF during the January transfer window. The 22 year old forward, currently with Serie A club Empoli, acknowledged the rumours but reaffirmed his focus on contributing to his current team.

Ekong made his senior debut for Empoli in September 2022 but has struggled to secure consistent playing time, appearing in nine league matches this season, all as a substitute. Loan spells at Perugia and Croatian club Istra 1961 saw him gain valuable experience, including scoring three goals and providing three assists in 22 games in Croatia.

While expressing respect for Malmö FF, a 27 time Allsvenskan champion, Ekong stated, "I am focused here and this is where I have a contract. Malmö is a great team, but my focus is on Empoli, and we’ll see what happens in the future."
